The Advanced Picking package available for Modula’s WMS system is the ideal solution for optimizing and automating picking and placing operations in the warehouse.

This advanced tool significantly improves productivity and accuracy, supporting companies in the management of the most complex and dynamic logistics tasks.

Advanced Picking

Main functions of the Advanced Picking module

Some of the main functions of the package are listed below, but many more are included in the package and the licence.

Order preparation areas are stations where the preparation for order picking takes place.
Each area is assigned a picking order, and when the order is processed, the operator picks the items from the warehouse and brings them to the area
where they are prepared (packaging, labelling, shipping, etc.).
This function makes it possible to process the same number of picking orders as the number of areas that have been set up.
The WMS processes all order lines running, optimising movements based on the warehouse management system. For each line run, the operator is provided with information on the destination area of the picked item. When all order lines have been completed, the area can be cleared and assigned to a new order.

Simultaneous preparation of multiple orders increases productivity by optimising the movement of items so that the total picking time is less than the sum of the time required for each individual order.

The Consolidation function allows a final control step to be added to the order preparation process, particularly in complex workflows involving the use of order preparation areas, with or without the use of Put To Light (PTL) picking equipment or picking stations, as well as the use of shipping units.
The consolidation of orders takes place in a designated area of the warehouse, known as the consolidation area, which is of course located downstream from the designated route of each item to be dispatched.
Each consolidation area is divided into smaller zones, i.e. the stations where the orders are checked, the items can be recounted by reading them again (if this function has been configured) and the final shipping units are prepared.

Manages packaging units (boxes and packages), ensuring simplified picking and transfer of packaged items.
Optimizes material handling and ensures efficient volume and weight management.

Efficiently creates and manages kits for items consisting of several components.
Simplifies picking and shipping of complex products, improving coordination between the assembly and logistics departments. Both the KIT item and the Group item allow the components of a KIT or GROUP to be managed according to a hierarchical structure, representing respectively the PARENT item (KIT code or GROUP code) and the child items (the items that make up the KIT or GROUP).

The main purpose of these two functions is to allow different items to be stored in the same compartment.

A packing list, or shipping unit, is a logical unit that groups together the items of the same order being processed, corresponding to a physical container, also known as a package in logistics, which may vary in size and type (envelope, box, crate, pallet, etc.) and in which the items are physically placed.
Based on the number of items, quantity, size, etc., one or more shipping units can be assigned to each order. When an order is ready for shipment, the list of all shipping units and their contents is referred to as the packing list.

Supports the advanced management of serial codes and serial numbers associated with the same item.
Ensures complete traceability of products with unique serialization, thus improving accuracy in picking and shipping operations.

Generates dedicated compartments automatically at the moment of placing, thus simplifying the storage of materials.
Applies logic to goods distribution, optimizing the available space and reducing errors.
